Meaning
I
consider myself incredibly fortunate and joyful to have the opportunity
to write about the Mantralaya Samsthana Pooja, also known as the Pooja
of Sri Lord Rama Devaru.
Whenever you visit Mantralaya, you may
witness the Pooja of Sri Lord Moola Rama Devaru conducted by Sri
Subhudendra Teertha Swamiji. With unwavering devotion, Swamiji takes
the idol from the sacred box, wholeheartedly immerses himself in the
Pooja, and later carefully returns the idols to their designated
containers. This ritual is diligently performed by Swamiji every day
without fail.
Let's explore the significance of this Pooja and understand the sacred nature of these idols in a more profound manner.
During
Kruta Yuga, Dwapara Yuga, and Treeta Yuga, meditating upon the Lord and
witnessing His presence was relatively straightforward. However, in the
current Kali Yuga, governed by the power of Kali, who presides over
this era, meditating upon the Lord has become a more challenging
endeavor. As many are aware, following the Dwapara Yuga, Duryodhana
assumed the role of Kali in Kali Yuga, and Kali sought to proliferate
rapidly on Earth. Despite his efforts, the potency of Sri Krishna
prevented Kali from entering the Kingdom of Parikshita.
Kali
appealed to Parikshita, asserting that it was unjust to bar him
considering his dominion over the current era. Parikshita,
acknowledging Kali's role, permitted him to manifest in specific
realms—places associated with gambling, alcohol consumption,
prostitution, immoral relationships, and violence. Finding all these
locations impure, Kali requested one more place, and Parikshita granted
permission for his presence in the sacred Saligrama. Consequently,
during Saligrama Pooja, the tradition of initially washing with water
before preparing Teertha is observed due to this accommodation of
Kali. The initial washing with water serves to cleanse Kali from the
Saligrama before the preparation of Teertha.
Aware of the
challenges posed by Kaliyuga, Lord Brahma harbored a desire for a
captivating idol of Sri Lord Rama that could serve as a source of
purification for the people in this age. In accordance with his wish,
Lord Brahma instructed his architect, Vishwakarma, to craft a stunning
idol. Following the divine directive, a beautiful idol of Sri Lord Rama
was brought into existence.
Lord Brahma dedicated numerous years
to the worship of the idol, infusing it with spiritual energy through
the recitation of mantras. The vibrational resonance created by such
chanting is the reason why visiting temples often evokes a sense of
well-being, as these sacred places retain the accumulated spiritual
energy over time. Following Lord Brahma's worship, sages like Sanaka,
Sadanand, Durvasa, and others continued the tradition of performing
Pooja to the Rama idol.
Over the course of time, the idol found its
way to the Suryavamsha, where kings such as Raghuraja, Dilip, Ikshaku,
Dasharatha, and Jambavanta dedicated years to its worship. Notably, Sri
Rama himself partook in the worship of this idol, elevating its
significance. As a result, it gained widespread recognition as the
revered Sri Moola Rama Devaru idol.
In Kali Yuga, the idol of
Lord Rama found its way to the esteemed Guru of Sri Raghavendra Swamy
Mutt, Sri Madhwacharyaru. Recognized as the incarnation of both Lord
Hanuman and Lord Bhima, who held special places in Lord Rama's
affections, Madhwacharyaru became the chosen one for the divine worship.
